Quick background for those who have not heard about AXIS: it was founded in 1991 when all the images were sent in as colour slides and reproduced in black and white! An independent charity, a platform and network Axisweb supports the development, sharing and showcasing of contemporary art practice. Inspired by a determination to champion and reflect the valuable role artists have in society Axisweb quickly grew in size and moved onto much more sophisticated systems of showing the world art that is current. Axisweb Story We are committed to supporting and presenting contemporary art and the activities of contemporary artists and makers. Our work is guided by our charitable values: Encourage and enable new collaborations and opportunities with artists. Advance education of the public by promoting and developing engagement, understanding and appreciation of the visual arts in the UK. Inspire new thinking, encourage public debate and inform best practice to contribute to better cultural engagement.
